Recent ActivityPowell High School offers instruction in three languages: French, Latin, and Spanish. The curricula for these language courses are aligned with state curricula and standards. We World Language teachers are extremely proud of our program and look forward to the opportunity to teach the students of the Powell community. All students working to attend a 4 year college are required by the Tennessee Diploma Project to complete two consecutive semesters of a World Language (i.e. Latin I and Latin II, in order).
We encourage capable students to take as many semesters of World Language as they can, whether four semesters of French and a semester of Spanish or just three semesters of Latin. Taking a world language, or more than one, can only enhance your educational experience not diminish it.

Just a thought...Remember that for most 4 year colleges, incoming freshmen are required to take a foreign language entrance exam. Since college semesters are faster paced than high school, most entrance exams are based on 3 YEARS OF A HIGH SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE!!! That means that if you only took 2 years of a foreign language, you are not going to be very successful on that entrance exam.
